Our Purpose and Mission

“The object of the of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members, developed by prayer and active co-operation, under ecclesiastical guidance, in Mary’s and the church’s work of crushing the head of the serpent and advancing the reign of Christ” – Legion of Mary Handbook Chapter 2

The ministry of the Legion of Mary exists to serve others, particularly those within our parish community, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ through the hands of our Blessed Mother.

Recalling the words of the Gospel of Luke chapter 1, we parallel this mission of service in line with the visit of our Blessed Mother to her cousin Elizabeth who was pregnant with John the Baptist.

Ultimately, as we serve others, we aim to bring Mary to the world as a means of winning the world to her son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

What We Do
  • We meet every Friday night to gather, pray, and study.
  • We visit nursing homes to share Scripture, pray, sing, and spend time with residents at these facilities.
  • We bring our Lady to homes of parishioners through the Pilgrim Statue Visitation.
  • We visit homebound parishioners and parishioners admitted to hospitals within our area for prayers.
  • We lead the praying of the Holy Rosary at funeral wakes.
Why You Should Join

Joining the Legion of Mary can be a meaningful and fulfilling experience for several reasons.

Firstly, it provides an opportunity to actively contribute to the mission of spreading the message of God’s love and compassion. Through various acts of service, such as visiting the sick, comforting the lonely, and evangelizing, members can make a positive impact in their community.

Secondly, being part of the Legion of Mary fosters personal spiritual growth and deepens one’s relationship with God. Regular prayer, study, and reflection sessions within the group offer a supportive environment for spiritual development.

Additionally, the Legion of Mary provides a sense of belonging and community, where members can form strong friendships and find support on their spiritual journey.

Ultimately, joining the Legion of Mary offers the chance to live out one’s call to holiness in a tangible and impactful way, while also benefiting from the fellowship and spiritual nourishment of like-minded individuals.

Our History

The Legion of Mary is an Association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate Mediatrix of all Graces have formed themselves into a Legion for service in the warfare which is perpetually waged by the Church against the world and its evil powers.

The first enrollment of legionaries of Mary took place at Myra House, Francis Street, Dublin, Ireland, at 8 pm on 7 September 1921, the eve of the feast of Our Lady’s Nativity.

From the title of the parent branch, that is, Our Lady of Mercy, the organization was for a time known as “The Association of Our Lady of Mercy”.

Testimonials

Carine Zibo: “Mother Mary has been the most powerful Saint in my life since my childhood. I moved to the United States with one of her statues. But coming here, I do not have time to pray the rosary like I used to because of this busy life. But, when I heard about the Legion of Mary, I took that opportunity to join them with my children. Therefore, my children and I are closer again to Mother Mary. My kids enjoy participating and know better who Mother Mary is.”

JoAnn: “How Legion of Mary ministry inspired me. I’ve made some very special friends in my life that share the same devotion to the Blessed mother as I do.  Love our scripture discussion.”
